Montenegro city & town guides

Separate guides for every municipality and selected smaller destinations, grouped by coast, central region and north.

Last updated: Sources checked:

Montenegro has 25 local self-government units: Podgorica, Cetinje and 23 municipalities. This directory covers all 25 and adds smaller visitor destinations with their own character. A municipality is larger than its main town; use each guide to understand the actual centre, surrounding places and practical travel routes.

Where should I start around the bay?

Consider Kotor for old-town exploration, Tivat for a waterfront base, and Herceg Novi for another perspective on the bay. Visit neighbourhoods and compare the final walk to your accommodation rather than choosing by town name alone.

Which coastal towns can I compare?

Look at Budva, Bar and Ulcinj when planning a coastal stay. Compare the specific beach or neighbourhood, access, parking and what remains open outside the main holiday season.

What about Podgorica and Cetinje?

Consider Podgorica when your plans centre on the capital or onward connections, and Cetinje for cultural exploration. Check museum opening times and transport for your dates.

Where can I plan mountain days?

Research Žabljak and Kolašin for a northern itinerary. Confirm seasonal road conditions, the distance to your chosen activity and available local transport before selecting a base.
